Casa Prieto López
Casa Prieto López shows Barragán working directly with the volcanic landscape of El Pedregal. Instead of clearing the site and placing a detached object on it, the house is composed around the existing lava, vegetation and changes in ground level.
Architecture and landscape remain visibly distinct, but neither is treated as background for the other. The project demonstrates how modern domestic life could be built into the terrain rather than imposed over it.

Warm ochre plaster meets the black volcanic terrain of El Pedregal directly
Terracotta
Burnt, clay-red tones extend color from architectural details to whole surfaces
Volcanic Gray
Lava stone grounds the warmer walls in the site
Limewash White
White planes give the composition a resting point against the volcanic ground
Lava Black
Solidified lava on the site itself is the darkest register in the composition
Garden Green
Existing vegetation is preserved between the geometric volumes rather than cleared
