    Casa Gálvez

    Luis Barragán · Mexico City

Casa Gálvez is structured around the gradual discovery of its garden and courtyards. The house does not reveal its full depth from the entrance. Instead, walls, passages and changes of direction divide the experience into a sequence of partial views.

Water, color and vegetation appear at specific moments rather than being continuously visible. This controlled progression makes the open spaces essential to the organization of the house and anticipates ideas that Barragán would later intensify in Casa Gilardi.

    Color System

    • Mexican Pink

A concentrated pink courtyard wall — the house's clearest color statement

    • Reflecting Water

An almost-black pool meets the pink wall in a darker, heavier register

    • Lava Black

The pool's dark floor reads as depth rather than a simple mirror
