Casa Estudio Max Cetto

Max Cetto began developing his own house-studio in Jardines del Pedregal in 1948 and moved in the following year. One of the first houses in the district, it is a horizontal two-level volume placed directly on the irregular volcanic ground rather than on a cleared platform; the upper studio, bedroom and bathroom followed in 1951–52.

Lava is not scenery here. Rock formations and cavities remain part of the rear garden and enter the architectural composition, while extensive glazing in the living and dining spaces continues the house into gardens and covered terraces. Stone, wood, steel, glass and concrete bring a rationalist language into contact with the site, and Catarina Kramis designed the garden that mediates between house and lava field.
