Pedro Ramírez Vázquez and Francisco Eppens Helguera · Mexico City
Open to the public
The building’s west facade carries La vida, la muerte, el mestizaje y los cuatro elementos, a monumental glazed-ceramic mural by Francisco Eppens Helguera completed in the early 1950s. Life, death, the four elements and the idea of mestizaje are drawn together inside a serpent biting its own tail, binding the school’s medical subject to pre-Columbian cosmology rather than illustrating anatomy directly.
