Salk Institute Courtyard

Louis Kahn invited Barragán to consult on the central courtyard of the Salk Institute, then planned as a garden. Barragán’s advice — to leave the space empty except for a single channel of water — became one of the most influential decisions in the building’s design, though Kahn remained its architect.
