Casa Ortega

Before his own house and studio, Barragán used Casa Ortega to explore the relationship between domestic space and an enclosed garden. The house is less important as an isolated object than as the beginning of a method: rooms unfold gradually, walls control what can be seen, and the garden becomes another interior rather than scenery outside the building.

The project introduces ideas that Barragán would refine throughout his later houses: privacy, delayed views, changes in scale and movement between shadow and open air.
