Capilla de las Capuchinas

At the Capuchin chapel, Barragán uses architecture to slow down perception. Light enters indirectly, color changes with the hour, and the route into the chapel moves through a sequence of compressed and open spaces.

The religious atmosphere does not depend on ornament or monumentality. It is produced through walls, shadows, screens, objects and carefully positioned openings. The project shows how Barragán’s domestic language could be transformed into a space for collective ritual and contemplation.
