# Plaza de las Tres Culturas

Mario Pani · [Mexico City](https://fondomoderno.com/buildings/cities/mexico-city)

Named for the three moments of history visible from a single point — Aztec ruins, a colonial-era church, and Mario Pani's modern housing complex — the plaza was built directly beside the archaeological remains of Tlatelolco's pre-Hispanic market city rather than clearing them. It later became the site of the 1968 student massacre, and the plaza has carried that history alongside its original one ever since.
